Peterson Directed Handwriting has withstood the test of time and then some. The method was developed by Dr. P. O. Peterson in 1908. The “directed” means that the teacher directs the writing movements with Action Words, Color Rhythm and Count. The student chants the words with the teacher and moves the pencil with the voice. This creates a beat when it is chanted and the student is able to move with a smooth rhythm to the sound of the voice.
Even though the Peterson method is over 100 years old, the Peterson company is fully modern in the use of the Internet as a free resource for parents, teachers and students. They provide links to video presentations with instruction in methods and techniques to enhance learning efforts.
